Law No. 6701 on the Human Rights and Equality Institution (2016) bans discrimination on grounds such as sex, race, religion, disability and age, but omits sexual orientation and gender identity.

Your obligations on arrival
Address / residence registration
Foreign students must apply for a student residence permit (ikamet) via the e-ikamet portal within 30 days of arrival under Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection.
Student work rights
Undergraduate students may work part-time up to 24 hours per week only after completing their first academic year and only with a work permit; graduate students may work without the hour limit.
Health insurance
Private health insurance covering the permit period is required for first-time student residence-permit applicants; students may instead enrol in state General Health Insurance (SGK/GSS) within 3 months of registration.
Bringing medication
Travellers should carry prescription medicines in original packaging with a doctor’s report/prescription and limit quantities to about a 3-month supply; controlled drugs need a doctor’s letter and may require Turkish Health Ministry approval.
