Your obligations on arrival
Address / residence registration
International students must obtain an Iqama (residence permit) under university sponsorship after arrival, requiring a medical examination and biometrics, with the National Address registered via the university, typically within the first weeks of arrival.
Student work rights
A student visa/Iqama is issued for study only and does not automatically permit employment; part-time work needs a university No-Objection Certificate and MHRSD authorisation, reportedly capped at around 20 hours per week.
Health insurance
Valid CCHI-approved health insurance (minimum SAR 100,000 cover) is mandatory for issuance of the student visa and Iqama and for enrolment, and coverage must be maintained for Iqama renewal.
Bringing medication
Since 1 November 2025 travellers carrying controlled medicines (narcotics/psychotropics such as strong painkillers and anxiety, ADHD or sleep drugs) must obtain an advance SFDA clearance permit via the CDS platform, with quantities limited to the trip duration (up to a one-month supply) and the prescription carried.
