Your obligations on arrival
Address / residence registration
Foreign nationals, including students, must complete migration registration (arrival notification) at their address of stay within 7 working days of arrival; keep the tear-off slip with your passport.
Student work rights
Since 2020 international students may work up to 20 hours a week during term (full-time in holidays); work at your own university needs no permit, but off-campus work requires a separate work permit.
Health insurance
A valid voluntary medical insurance (DMS) policy is required for the student visa and must cover the whole stay; universities can expel students who let it lapse.
Bringing medication
Ordinary prescription medicines are allowed, but narcotic and psychotropic drugs (Government Decree 681) must be declared via the red channel with the original prescription and a notarised Russian translation; CBD and some medicines such as bupropion are banned.
