Your obligations on arrival
Address / residence registration
International students must obtain a student residence permit from the Aliens Affairs Bureau of the police within 30 days of arrival; foreign nationals generally must register for a residence permit within 8 days of entry.
Student work rights
Iran’s student visa grants no automatic right to work; any employment requires university and authorities’ approval, and there is no defined statutory weekly hour allowance for foreign students.
Health insurance
Health insurance is mandatory for international students: proof is required for the student visa and to register, and basic health insurance is now compulsory for all legally resident foreign nationals as a condition of residence-permit renewal.
Bringing medication
Prescription medicines should be carried in their original packaging with a copy of the prescription; narcotics and controlled psychotropic substances must be declared or pre-approved, and illegal drugs are banned with severe penalties.
