The Labour Code (Law No. 015/2002, amended by Law No. 16/010 of 2016) bans employment discrimination on grounds such as race, sex, religion and HIV status, but there is no comprehensive anti-discrimination statute and no protection for sexual orientation or gender identity.
DRC ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on 30 September 2015 and enacted Organic Law No. 22/003 of 3 May 2022 on the protection and promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities.
No health insurance is legally required for a DRC visa or study enrolment, but comprehensive travel and medical-evacuation cover is strongly advised given very limited facilities; a yellow-fever vaccination certificate, by contrast, is mandatory for entry.
Bring prescription medicines in their original labelled packaging with a copy of the prescription (using generic names), and verify the legality of any controlled or restricted drugs with a DRC embassy before travelling.

Student work rights
A DRC student visa carries no work authorisation; foreign nationals must obtain a labour-approved work permit to work legally, so paid employment is not permitted on a student visa.
